The Whole person virtual Gala
The Whole Person’s Gatsby Gala was a roaring success!
Late changes from what was to be a hybrid ballroom event couldn’t disable Kansas City’s The Whole Person from celebrating their largest fundraiser virtually.
The Gatsby Gala was streamed live from Utopia Entertainment’s studio in St. Louis to donors and attendees throughout the midwest and greater Kansas City bi-state region. Headquartered in Kansas City, The Whole Person provides multiple programs supporting independent lifestyles for those with disabilities.
Event planners and co-chairs donned roaring 20’s outfits and celebrated Gatsby style in keeping with their theme live from our St. Louis studios.
While they had planned for a live event with Utopia’s production team traveling to Kansas City; the pandemic made it necessary to pivot to a virtual event. But even so, with the aid of Auctioneer Shannon Mays from Raising Paddles, donations exceeded expectations.
Kudos to Roe and Jordi from the Utopia Entertainment production team for their guidance and hands-on planning throughout the process.
The Whole Person: video testimonial
“You are the bomb! You are absolute life savers. And your kind words made me cry. The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. Thank you for holding my hand through this process. The pivot was difficult for this old girl.”

So how did Utopia help plan and produce the Great Gatsby Gala?
The production team transformed our studios into a Gatsby Gala, utilizing green screen backgrounds to capture the evening theme.
In addition to the night of production, our video team was charged with filming and producing multiple stories of how The Whole Person changes lives everyday. For instance, one such story was of a couple where both the husband and wife suffer life-threatening disabilities and found themselves out of work and homeless. We had the honor of telling their heartwarming journey from despair to now having a home and part-time employment facilitated by The Whole Person.
The results: Fundraising goals were exceeded beyond expectations!
“Your storytelling gets to the heart of our organization. You helped us tell our story that is all encompassing, but remains captivating to someone that doesn’t know us.”
-Terry Goddard, The Whole Person
What an honor it was to travel to KC and meet The Whole Person office and field teams; witnessing and filming firsthand the incredible contribution they make everyday in the Kansas City region. And of course after a terrific virtual fundraising event – the evening was culminated with music from DJ Roe and confetti showers in true great Gatsby Gala style.
“It’s really great because my colleagues have been watching hundreds of videos of virtual events and this is the best one they’ve seen yet.”
