MIZZOUTHON MAIN EVENT 2018
WHO: Dance Marathon (MizzouThon) at the University of Missouri - Columbia. What an unbelievable charity to donate to.
WHEN: April 7th, 2018
WHY: During the thirteen hour event we laughed. We cried. We danced. We celebrated. We sang. We fell in love. We fell in love with the kids we met and we fell in love with the mission. One little girl was paralyzed from the neck down. Children's Hospital helped design a wheel chair she could control (forward, backwards, left, right) with her breath. How AMAZING is that? What a MIRACLE for this little girl. She was often seen spinning and smiling with our Emcees on the main stage.
WHAT: MizzouThon, Mizzou’s Dance Marathon program, is the largest student run (non profit) organization at the University of Missouri. Throughout the year, Mizzou and MizzouThon participants raise money by hosting smaller family events (connecting with children and families that have been impacted by MU Women’s and Children’s Hospital) and they end the school year with their culminating event, a thirteen hour dance marathon.
Dance Marathon is a program hosted by high schools and universities across the nation. It's really exactly as it sounds, thirteen hours of dancing, celebrating life for those fighting for theirs. Periodically, a family will take the stage to share a heart-tugging story of how Children's Hospital impacted their family. Mizzou donates all proceeds to MU Women's and Children's Hospital in Columbia, MO.
HOW WE HELPED: Retention and Energy. Utopia Entertainment provided a DJ, Emcees, Staging, Sound, Lighting and Videography- creating the environment that helped change MizzouThon forever. At 1AM, after thirteen hours of non-stop celebration, the evening closed with the highest retention rate in MizzouThon history. We left with chills; what a celebration of life, a magical event.
The highlight video we created (below) will forever preserve that memory.
What an honor to bring joy and celebration to children and families battling hardship. There is nothing more gratifying than bringing people together, holding a safe space, and helping create life-long memories. Shared along the way were unforgettable stories of cheer and sorrow, pain and triumph, resilience and optimism. This all helped cultivate an indescribable energy leaving our company, the students, dancers and families in awe.
THE TEAM THAT MADE IT POSSIBLE:
Kerry – The Emcee of emcees is driven by connecting people and creating a space where people of all ages can celebrate together. Kerry played both high school and college football, but his passion is entertainment and connecting people. Kerry's personality, ability to connect, and dancing style all helped energize and empower MizzouThon for nearly 13 hours!
Roe – Our Lead DJ, Roe White, has been with Utopia for 14 years. Roe started as a dancer, became an Emcee, but his true passion -- where he found his love, was behind the DJ booth on the turntables as our lead DJ. Roe is also an owner of Utopia. The fate of the company lies largely in Roe's hands as he cultivates and trains new talent. Our talent keeps us alive and we're thankful Roe has played such an integral role in our company for over a decade.
Rian- Rian, a former Chris Brown choreographer, is a quick-witted hipster who is always inspiring, motivating, and uplifting the people around him. His soul is motivated by great energy, interaction and emotion.
